A SUMMER IN NASHVILLE:
A SONGWRITERS PILGRIMAGE TO MUSIC CITY

December 3rd, 2017

In the summer of 2016 UK born singer / songwriter Karl Eland fulfilled a lifelong ambition by embarking on an acoustic tour of Nashville, Tennessee in the USA.  Inspired by the BBC documentary 'Bob Harris - My Nashville' - in true Dylan-Esq, folk-music tradition, armed with nothing more than a suitcase and an acoustic guitar - Karl took a flight from Manchester to Music City.

When Karl first arrived in Nashville he only had one gig booked - at a venue called 'Bobby’s Idle Hour' on Music Row. Following this performance, Karl then headed for the rest of the city's live music bars and performed at many open-mic nights - where it soon became clear that Nashville loved Karl's brand of folk / country / rock storytelling with comparisons made with acts such as Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle.

By the end of the summer Karl had made appearances at all of the top songwriter venues in Nashville including the world famous Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner and The Commodore Grille.  During this time Karl's impact went from strength to strength - often receiving standing ovations for his brand of compelling storytelling.

Whilst in Nashville, Karl was also advised to join the Nashville Songwriters Association International, an organisation that represents the cream of songwriters in Nashville.  This led to Karl recording a live session of acoustic tracks at 'Catch This Music' - a top Nashville studio on the famous 16th Avenue, Music Row.

Through the NSAI Karl also found himself in the position of pitching his songs to major music publishers and working with professional song-writing mentors who helped Karl to fine tune his art and to gain a better understanding of the craft of song-writing.

"Nashville was everything I expected it to be, the people were wonderful and really took me in as one of their own. It is a beautiful city and the music scene is non-stop - it's my kind of town!

"The highlight of the trip was definitely playing at the world famous Bluebird Cafe - the venue lived up to its reputation as the best songwriter venue on the planet," commented Karl.

Since returning to the UK Karl has remained in touch with Nashville through the NSAI and he plans to return to Nashville at some point in the future.

HIGHWAY DREAMS:
DEMO EP

November 20, 2017

In 2017, Karl embarked on a project in which he revisited his entire back catalogue of over 100 songs - in order to put together the demo of his debut album titled 'Highway Dreams'.

"When I was in Nashville in 2016, a successful hit songwriter commented that my songs all have a theme of freedom running through them, so this is really where the title and idea for the album 'Highway Dreams' came from.

"In going back through all of my old material I did one or two re-writes, discovered some old hidden gems that I had forgotten about and I have also written a few new songs along the way - inspired by the old songs!" commented Karl.

In order to help promote the songs, in 2018, Karl is set to play a number of online live acoustic performances via You Tube Live.  He is also working on releasing a Demo EP of the tracks, which will be available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon etc.
